Hyaluronidase is a product which is able to dissolve the most common type of dermal fillers.
The most concerning risk with hyalase is of allergy. It is important for clients to be aware of this risk and also for the practitioners treating with this product to ensure a patch test is carried out. We advise that clients should first consider going to their previous injector if they want hyalase, but if they decide against this, the JM Medispa clinic offers hyalase injections to dissolve other injectors work.
Reasons for dissolving filler
The most common purpose for us dissolving lip filler is due to filler migration, clients unhappy with previous work they have had elsewhere or simply because client’s want to change the shape or downsize their lips.
Filler Dissolving Treatment
Before treatment is carried out, the practitioner will inject a tiny amount of hyalase into the client’s forearm. This is how the patch test is done and minimises the risk of an allergic reaction.
Once the patch test is complete, the hyalase will be injected into the area where the filler is to be dissolved. The area will be massaged in between injections to break down the filler.
How much does filler dissolving cost?
At JM Medispa we charge £100 per vial for hyalase.
It depends on the area and amount of filler being dissolved to how much you would need. Usually one vial is more than enough to dissolve lip filler but it is never guaranteed and you may need to repeat the treatment 2 weeks later.
Larger areas such as the jaw or cheeks may need 1-3 vials to dissolve fully.
After Treatment
Immediately afterwards the area dissolved will likely look swollen and redness and bruising may occur. The lips in particular may look as if they have just had more filler injected and some clients can swell quite drastically, however usually by the next day the majority of the swelling and filler will have gone.
If you are planning on re-filling the area after dissolving, this is possible but you will have to wait for two weeks to pass as the hyalase is still active for this amount of time. Hyalase is an enzyme which breaks down hyaluronic acid fillers, but it can also break down naturally occurring hyaluronic acid present in the body. The results can be unpredictable and the effect dramatic with possible loss of volume (as the filler is being removed). Although some of the effects can be immediate, it can take up to 2 weeks for the final results to be seen and the procedure may need to be repeated.
Hyalase® administration can result in anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) which in itself is life threatening and requires immediate medical attention. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction can include shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, difficulty swallowing, swelling of the tongue, eyelids, lips, hoarseness of the voice, stomach pain, nausea or diarrhoea.
After the procedure some other common injection-related reactions might occur. These reactions include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising and tenderness at the injection site. They have generally been described as mild to moderate and typically resolve spontaneously after a few days after injection. Bruising may occasionally be more significant.
