Nose to Mouth Lines

Nose to mouth lines (also known as nasolabial folds) run from the side of the nose down to the corners of the mouth. They appear as we get older, as a result of the loosening of the skin in the cheeks and general loss of volume in our faces. As we age, these lines can become very deep and noticeable and give the face a tired, sad, or sagging expression. This area can distort the balance of the midface and change the relationship and balance between the lower and upper face.

Dermal Filler Treatment

The first, safest and simplest option is to plump out fine lines by injecting them with a temporary hyaluronic acid dermal filler. Dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid replace the lost volume in your face by hydrating and treating deep wrinkles and folds, improving your skin’s health and youthfulness for a natural look.

After a topical anaesthetic has been applied, the hyaluronic acid is injected at a specific point in these nose-to-mouth folds. The crease is softened and plumped up, creating a lifting effect on the whole face.

Causes & Treatments

Nasolabial folds become more noticeable due to a variety of factors, including:

Sun exposure / Loss of fat, which can make the cheeks and nearby regions appear saggy / Smoking / Exposure to environmental pollutants / Rapid weight loss or frequent fluctuations in weight.

Treatments
The great news is that you do not have to live with even the finest lines, thanks to hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Treatment options to get rid of the nose to mouth lines might include:

  • Dermal filler injections.
  • Profilo skin booster.
  • Botulinum toxin injections.
  • Chemical peels.

Marionette Lines

Marionette lines are the shadows that start from the corner of the mouth and run down towards the jawline, either side of the chin. They look like the lines on marionette dolls and hence are often described as marionette lines. Loss of skin collagen and loss of mid-face volume causes the skin on the face to descend down towards the jaw. This results in the formation of jowls and marionette lines.

Dermal Filler Treatment

Dermal fillers are injected in the area between the chin, jawline and corner of the mouth to re-contour the area, provide support to the corners of the mouth and reduce the appearance of the marionette shadows.

Smokers Lines

Despite the name, these vertical lip lines are not always caused by smoking, but can also be due to repetitive lip pursing and movement. They are often more visible when lipstick “bleeds” into these lines. Filler into these wrinkles can help reduce their appearance. Filler can also be combined with botox to help maximise reduction.

How Dermal Fillers Help

Lip lines appear as indentations/creases (particularly on the upper lip), which can make you look older than you actually are.

Dermal filler restores volume to these “smoker’s lines” to help flatten them out, reducing the shadows that make these lip lines more noticable. Lip line filler can be combined with Botox, which helps to reduce the strength of the muscles that contribute towards making these lines visible when moving your mouth.

Cheek Fillers

Over time the face loses fat, causing the cheeks to become flat and saggy, giving way to a sunken-in look. Although some are born with naturally high cheekbones, achieving the look of sculpted cheeks can be accomplished through both nonsurgical and surgical treatments that focus on restoring plumpness, volume and definition.

What can be done?

To restore volume to the midface and recreate youthful contours, we can use dermal fillers. Thick cross-linked hyaluronic acid injections can be placed directly above the cheekbones and moulded to define natural cheekbone structure.

Cheek fillers are the non-surgical tools relied upon to lift and sculpt the cheekbones. These injectable dermal fillers restore cheek volume to give the cheeks greater definition and lift. They comprise hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar compound that exists in our skin’s connective tissues. Its main function is to retain water, helping our skin to stay plump and hydrated. When strategically injected into the cheeks, it improves their dimensions by giving them greater volume and symmetry.

How it works

How do Cheek Fillers lift the cheeks? Cheek fillers achieve lift by making your cheekbones more prominent, pronounced and perfectly shaped. Full cheekbones are a sign of youth, but as we age, our supportive fat, collagen and elastin stores deplete in the cheeks, causing them to sag and droop. Weight loss in the face can also contribute to a lack of definition.

Hyaluronic acid replenishes lost moisture levels while filling and smoothing out sagging or hollow skin. This serves to lift the entire face. As a result, the sunken look of the cheeks disappears. With cheekbones looking more cushioned and defined, the face is rebalanced while the gaunt look caused by weight and fat loss is eradicated.

Chin Augmentation

Treatment

The chin crease below the lips is also caused by tissue loss and sagging skin. And, in our fifties, the mentalis muscle becomes hyperactive to compensate for sagging skin, resulting in a pebbly or dimpled appearance of the chin for a ‘witchy chin look’.

Chin augmentation gives the face proportion and defines the jaw so that facial features are in harmony. It can be done through surgery, but this involves downtime with bruising and swelling up to six weeks after treatment. Instead, there is a non-invasive, non-surgical chin augmentation treatment that’s quick, safe and effective for a natural, balanced aesthetic appearance.

How it’s used

What can chin augmentation be used for? Dermal fillers can be used most effectively and naturally to restore areas of lost volume in the face that occurs as we age, which often contributes to the sag and jowling. Strategic and skilful placement of filler can lift and support the face naturally with no need for a surgical procedure. Chins can be remodelled and given more definition.

We may recommend a combination of treatments to reduce the chin fat as well as to tighten the area along the jaw and under chin. Your practitioner will give you all the advice you need.
